6th Kentucky Regimental Field Hospital: HOME

Welcome to the 6th Kentucky Regimental Field Hospital website. We are an independently incorporated nonprofit organization whose aim is to educate and inform the public about the practice of medicine in the field during the War Between the States. We strive for historical accuracy in our information, appearance, demeanor, and medical procedures. Although our major emphasis is on Civil War reenactment events, we also do living history, and school presentations, and we have appeared at museum open houses as well as supporting other worthwhile endeavors.

We portray a Confederate military field hospital, which is similar to the contemporary MASH unit. The field hospitals traveled with the their assigned units, providing medical care to the soldiers in camp and after battles. Our field hospital unit travels to events primarily in Kentucky but we have also traveled to neighboring states to carry on our mission to present life in the 1860's and specifically in a working Confederate field hospital during the early years of the War Between the States.

Another goal of our unit is to honor all of those who served, Union and Confederate, on both sides in the greatest upheaval in our country, the Civil War.

If you are interested in joining a reenacting unit, learning about military medical  practices, or requesting our assistance with a living history event, a school presentation, or other event, or if you are merely curious, please explore our website. If the information you seek is not found here, please feel free to contact us.

From the United States Army Medical Activity Fort Knox, Kentucky (Ireland Army Community Hospital) Silver Caduceus Society and Junior Officer Council, thank you sincerely for you efforts in organizing and reenactiong the Battle of Sacremento, Kentucky on the 22nd day of May 2010. This historical battle plays great significance in the formation of the United States into what it is today, and we appreciate those who made it possible to see all the different educational exhibits. It was highly rewarding to learn about the history of the United States and Confederate State Armies, and early medical evacuation and treatment procedures that laid foundation for conserving the fighting strength today.
